The Big Idea

A conversation this week reminded me why so many capable people never actually start.

It isn't that they can't. It's that they open the tool, stare at the empty box, and freeze.

Here's the thing nobody says out loud: the paralysis isn't about doing. It's about choosing. Twelve tools, a hundred videos, and no idea which one to open first.

So today I'm going to make one choice for you. One free tool. One tiny task. Five minutes. No commitment, no course, no stack to build. Just proof that this thing can work for you.

The Deep-Dive

The tool is plain, free ChatGPT. Not the paid version. Not an agent. Not some automation you have to wire together. The free one, in your browser, right now.

Here's why most first attempts fail. You open it, you type something vague like "help me with marketing," and it hands you generic mush. You read it, think "well, that's useless," and close the tab. I've done it. Most people I talk to have done it too.

The problem was never the tool. The problem was the input.

AI doesn't know your business. It knows language. So when you feed it something vague, it gives you something vague back. When you feed it a real, specific task from your own work, it gives you something you can actually use.

That's the whole reframe:

"What can this AI do?"

"What real task can I hand it right now?"

Notice the difference. The first question keeps you studying. The second gets you moving.

The people who benefit most from AI aren't the ones who know the most about AI. They're the ones who know the most about their own work. You have 25 years of that. AI can't replace it. It can only amplify it.

So we start with a problem you already have. A client email that reads too cold. A follow-up you keep putting off. A question you know a prospect will ask.

Feed it one of those, and your very first attempt produces something real.

Even Canva, a company built on creative tools, refuses to force one specific AI tool on its people. Its cofounder put it plainly: force it, and people "do that very begrudgingly." They never enter the experimental mindset. So don't force it on yourself either. Just play with one small thing.

This is a five-minute experiment. Not a commitment.

Example

Picture the moment. You've got an email sitting in drafts. It's fine, but it reads a little flat, a little transactional. You've been meaning to warm it up.

Instead of rewriting it yourself for the fourth time, you paste it into ChatGPT with this line at the top:

"Rewrite this email so it sounds warmer and more personal, but keep it professional. Here's the email:"

Then you paste your actual email underneath.

What comes back isn't perfect. It won't sound exactly like you. But it gives you a warmer version to react to, edit, and send in two minutes instead of twenty.

That's it. That's the win. Not a business empire. A single real task, done faster, using words you already had.

Your Tactical Takeaway

Open free ChatGPT today. Pick one real task from your own work. Paste one of these, then paste your own material underneath:

  • "Rewrite this email so it sounds warmer and more personal:"

  • "List 5 questions a client might ask about [your service]."

Read what it gives you. Fix the parts that aren't you. That's more progress than six months of videos gave you.

This Week's Signal

I keep noticing the same pattern in the people who write me. They're not lazy. They're not slow. They're careful, and the carefulness has turned into standing still.

What's worth your attention this week isn't a new tool. It's the permission to do one small thing badly. The first attempt is supposed to be rough. That's not failure. That's the experiment working.

Topic Specific Nugget

Here's a small trick that improves nearly every result: tell ChatGPT who it's writing for. Add one line like "The reader is a longtime client who trusts me" or "This is for someone comparing three providers." AI writes generic copy when it has no audience in mind, the same way you would. Give it context you already carry in your head, and the output sharpens instantly. Your judgment is the ingredient. AI just plates it.

Once you've felt that first small win, the next question is "okay, now what do I build with this?" That's exactly what the AI Leverage Map answers - a free guide that shows you what matters, what to ignore, and where AI actually earns its place in your work. Grab it and turn one five-minute experiment into a real direction.

You've got the expertise. What you're missing is the system that turns it into income you own. The Strategic Newsletter OS is the exact build I used to grow Quiet Empire past 10,000 subscribers on nights and one day off. If you're done collecting answers and ready to build one asset, start there.

The Biggest Change AI Has Made Isn't What Most People Think

Over the past year, people have asked me a similar question.

"What's been the biggest change AI has made in your business?"

Most assume my answer will be a specific tool.

Or a prompt.

Or some automation that saves hours every week.

Those things certainly help.

But they aren't the biggest change.

The biggest change has been the way I think about my role.

I no longer see my job as doing more work.

I see my job as designing better systems.

That shift has changed almost every decision I make.

I couldn't explain the entire framework in one newsletter.

If you'd like to see the complete system—including the part that most businesses completely miss—I put together a free workshop here.
